Let's take a step towards a more sustainable future.

In today's society, while millions of people suffer from hunger and food insecurity, food waste remains a serious global issue. This phenomenon not only has devastating environmental impacts but also represents a significant loss of resources and energy. If immediate action is not taken, the need for food in the future will become increasingly difficult to meet.

Food waste occurs at various stages of the food supply chain. From production and harvesting to transportation, storage, and disposal, food waste is caused by many factors. Lack of storage infrastructure, technological deficiencies, weather conditions, market inadequacies, and lack of education are some of the main factors contributing to this problem.

According to Stop Food Waste Day

33% of all food produced is wasted every year. That translates to $1.2 trillion worth of food annually.

Almost 50% of all fruits and vegetable produced is wasted every year globally which is equivalent to about 3.7 trillion apples.

If 25% of the food currently lost or wasted were saved, it would be enough to feed 870 million hungry people.

Tips that we can all apply to contribute to combating food waste

Plan your meals and avoid buying unnecessary food

• Plan your meals
